Day 12: I'll bet a lot of you folks don't believe that...-- Jiminy Cricket

I bet a lot of you don't believe that. About a wish coming true. Do you?-- Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio
This is the first line spoken in the 1940 classic Pinocchio. It sets the mood for the whole film, which I feel is to make a believer out of the nonbelievers.
Everyone makes wishes. I don't know one person who has never made a wish for something or for someone. It could be for something as grand as winning the lottery or as selfless as wishing the best for someone else. It could be as simple as wishing for your dream job to come through or as complex as wishing for all cancer and all the world's troubles to end.
As we make wishes over time, some don't come true and others do with a little hard work to prove you deserve your wish. Think about how Geppetto wished for a real boy and Pinocchio wished to be a real boy. It was only through Pinocchio's hard work to stay on the right path and his final selfless act that The Blue Fairy granted their wish. Even Jiminy Cricket got his wish of a solid gold medal for his hard work keeping Pinocchio on the straight and narrow path. Those who soley believe in just wishing for things to appear without a little hard work or effort find themselves sad and bitter, and, over time, lose faith in the power of wishing to the point where they stop wishing and come to hate those who still believe in wishes and help their own wishes come true. To those who are like that, I say give wishing a second chance and give it a helping hand. You never know what you can do until you wish and try.
Until next time!
