Day 76: He said an elephant nver forgets.-- Junior Elephant

He said an elephant never forgets.-- Junior Elephant, The Jungle Book

This rather unforgettable quote comes to us after Colonel Hathi accidentally forgets his son as the herd of elephants marches through the jungle.

They say an elephant never forgets. Over time this has actually been proven true. Some of the elephants that have been rescued from various circumstances were rehabilitated and released back into the wild. Many years later when the humans who have rescue them or taken care of them while they were in captivity came to check up on them, the elephants recognized the kind people who helped them in their time of need.

I love how this scene is animated and how the words fit the situation, though it was wrong of Junior not to keep up with his family. It is completely understandable because he is still a child and it shows how easy it can be to forget that there is a child among the adults or lose track of them in an instant. Colonel Hathi tries to save face if you will by getting onto his son for just being himself, because Colonel Hathi prides himself on having a troop that follows things to the letter; meaning no elephants look shabby, no elephant is out of step, which makes things very hilarious when his wife (and Junior's mother) Winifred stops the march and puts Colonel Hathi in his place by making him realize that he has a son still looking up to him and learning. I wonder what kind of elephant Junior grows up to be: if he's more stern but laid-back like Winifred or more authoritative and Military-like like Colonel Hathi. I also wonder if Junior ever has moments where he forgets because in life nobody can remember everything.  No matter how hard we humans try to remember everything, even those ultra-rare folks with superhuman-like remembering skills have their rare moments of forgetfullness.  Luckily there are ways to remember, like writing things down or typing them into a computer! Paper trails can sometimes be a wonderful reminder.

So until next time do your best to remember everything and remember it is okay to not and Keep Cooking with Character!
