Day 38: I was just giving myself some good advice--Alice

 I was just giving myself some good advice--Alice, Alice in Wonderland

While Alice was conversing with The Doorknob, The Doorknob tells her to drink from the bottle to shrink down to his size. She comments that "If one drinks from a bottle marked poison, it is bound to disagree with one sooner or later." The Doorknob didn't understand her remark and she clarified with this quote, which comes up again later in the form of a song.

People love to give advice, both good and bad. Some give some great advice, others not so much. Sometimes those who give others that great advice don't always take the advice they give, even when they need to listen to it themselves. For example, Alice gave herself some great advice to be cautious about the unmarked bottle (see the quote above). By all normal logic, she should have listened to her own advice since the bottle was unmarked and the hang-tag only said "Drink Me". She had no idea what the contents were, yet she still chose to follow the strange bottle's advice and drank from it. For all she knew it could have been poison or it could have been something yummy like juice. She got lucky in the sense that the bottle wasn't poisoned and just a shrinking potion. One should never drink from unmarked bottles. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
I could go on and on about various kinds of advice, but I'm not since it's all been said before. I myself have been known to "pull an Alice" and give great advice but not take it. I've also been given great advice but not taken it, only to find out I should have taken the great advice in the first place, which would have saved me a lot of grief. I also find myself saying the exact same advice given to me, which in turn hits me upside the head like "oh I should take this myself.". I am only human after all. So chances are if someone's giving you great advice that will not get you hurt and seems to help you, do yourself a favor and take it.
The best way I can think of ending this one is with another quote from a Disney tv series. In the Elena of Avalor episode "First day of rule", Zuzo, Elena and Alacazar's spirit guide fox tells Elena "Giving Advice is easy. Taking it is the hard part." after she realized he gave her some great advice. So until next time, keep taking and giving good advice and Keep Cooking With Character!
