Day 88: It's not Beethoven Mama, but it sure bounces.-- Berlioz

It's not Beethoven Mama, but it sure bounces.-- Berlioz, The AristoCats

This cute quote comes to us after O'Malley introduces Duchess and her kittens to Scatcat and his band's style of music.

Have you ever listened to a new song that is not in your normal genre of music. Let's say instead of classical song like one of Beethoven's masterpieces (Duchess and her kittens's favorites), you hear something more jazzy like Louis Armstrong (Scatman Scrothers, who voices ScatCat, does a mean stylized impresson of Louis). Perhaps you normally listen to Reba MacIntire and someone introduces you to Eminem; maybe instead you normally listen to Christmas Carols and someone introduces you to grunge rock.

How did it make you feel? Did you rather enjoy it and it make you want to listen to something more or perhaps he really didn't like it and were just giving it a try? It is a good thing that you did try it because you would have never known if you would have liked it if you hadn't. It's always good to try new things whether it's new music or even a new food. I am reminded of another quote that comes from a Pixar film that the food critic Anton Ego said. He said:  "In the past I have made no secret of my distain for Chef Gusteau's motto "Anyone can cook." But I realize only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere."  Had Anton Ego not given Gusteau's restaurant a second chance, he never would have come to this realization.

Have you ever given anything a second chance as Ego did when your first chance didn't be everything you had hoped for like Berlioz did experiancing ScatCat's music the first time? Perhaps you'/ve tried it several times and found you still didn't like it, and that's ok. Perhaps it finally grew on you so you like it now. Have you ever had a reaction like Berlioz or perhaps Anton Ego who wrote this in his second review of Gusteau's: "The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations."? I hope you will continue to find new things you like to do, listen to or eat and remain kind and respectful of others choices even if they are not your normal brand of music or food. For you will never know what you like if you don't try anything new.

So until next time, try everything, even if it's outside your comfort zone and as always Keep Cooking with Character!
