Day 119: Munchings and Crunchings in here somewhere.-- Gurgi

Munchings and Crunchings in here somewhere.-- Gurgi, The Black Cauldron

This tasty quote comes to us when Taran is in the forest trying to find Hen Wen, the Oracle Pig. Out of nowhere, a big ball of fluff that resembles a walking dog named Gurgi ambushes him and tries to find something to eat in Taran's pockets and bag. These are also Gurgi's first words in the film.

Have you ever met someone who is constantly hungry and it seems like nothing can get you them? They eat plate after plate and it's never enough. Gurgi is very much this critter. He also says some of the funniest lines of the movie. He called apples "munchings and crunchings", which can be another term for anything to eat.

Perhaps you have been extremely hungry and not known what you wanted to eat or knew what you wanted to eat but couldn't find it, like Gurgi and the Apple. He could smell the Apple that Taran wanted to eat later but Gurgi couldn't find it. After a long search, Gurgi found the apple and ate it, much to Taran's shock and horror, for that was Taran's apple NOT Gurgi's. Perhaps you have a food-stealing friend yourself. Hopefully they were remorseful like Gurgi was, when Taran scolded the scrappy pup.

Little did either of them know, it was the start of a true friendship which overcame many obstacle and was centered around food and a "life-debt". Do you have friendships like this where they may have gone off on the wrong foot for whatever reason and someone does something that makes you rethink and accept the friendship? Perhaps someone was spreading gossip that wasn't true and you stood up to them, then once you got on the same page of the same book, you both became friends and laughing it later on. Friends can be made anywhere. in all shapes and sizes. They also come in many different forms of species too. For Taran, he was friends with a pig, then became friends with a ball of walking. talking scruff named Gurgi, the captive blonde haired resourceful Princess Eilonwy, a bard named Fflewdurr Fflam whose lyre could sense a lie, and several members of The Fairy Folk, including their king, all because Hen Wen runs away. I'm pretty sure when he went to find Hen Wen, he never expected to make friends of all shapes sizes and species; yet his truest friendship got started in the most unconventional way; all over one single Apple.

So until next time always remember to have spare munchings and crunchings just incase Gurgi comes along and Keep Cooking with Character!
