Day 144: Les Poissons

Les Poissons
sung by "Chef Louis" Rene Aubujernois
in The Little Mermaid

This song comes to us when the chef makes dinner for Ariel and Eric on her first night in his castle. Hilarity ensues when he finds Sebastian hiding under a lettuce leaf.

Out of all the songs, this one is one of my favorite. It's also fairly fitting for my blog because I love to cook. If you look carefully you can see he shows how to make fried fish and stuffed crabs in a hilarious manner. It also shows you what not to do: put your hand on a hot stove and grabbing a block full of knives to kill a very fast crab. Sebastian does his best to get away and gives us a good laugh.

I've always wondered what it would be like to taste stuffed crab. Sadly I can't eat crab or shellfish thanks to a food allergy. I'm also very careful with the fish to be safe. I can only imagine what stuffed crab taste like. I've had some pretty tasty fish and chips made from North Atlantic Cod locally and the best fried halibut in Whittier, Alaska. Luckily there's a lot of recipes online for fried fish here and stuffed crab here. I've not tried them for obvious reasons. I'd love to hear your favorite fried fish and stuffed crab recipes to pass onto my readers!

So until next time, watch your temper in the kitchen and Keep Cooking with Character!

Day 143: Eric, if I may say, far better than any dream girl, is one of.. --Grimsby

Eric, if I may say, far better than any dream girl, is one of flesh and blood, one warm and caring, and right before your eyes.-- Grimsby, The Little Mermaid

As Eric plays his flute dreaming of the gorgeous young woman who saved his life in the shipwreck, Grimbsy makes this observation before going inside.

Have you ever dreamed about the perfect person for you? Were you one of the lucky ones to have found him/her? Are you still looking for him/her? What do you look for when you're looking in your dream person? Do you have a list written down or just have it committed to memory? Do you dream of your wedding one day to them? How do you know they're the one when you meet them? Do you look for a sign or just go with your guy and heart?

This quote, while wordy, holds a lot of truth. For all the dreaming one does, it doesn't compare to the feelings that happen when you're with someone that's flesh and blood, especially if the one you're with is perfect for you or even when you're with friends. You could build someone so perfect in your mind but not be able to find them in reality. Likewise, you may be able to find someone so perfect in reality it would exceed all your mind's expectations. So it's kinda a Catch-22. It's always a good idea what you want in the person you'll spend the rest of your life with.

Day 142: I gotta admit. I can't put my foot on it right now, but if I just stand here long enough-- Scuttle

I gotta admit. I can't put my foot on it right now, but if I just stand here long enough.-- Scuttle, The Little Mermaid

This funny gem comes to us when Scuttle is trying to figure out what's diffrent about Ariel when he sees her later in the movie. Little does he know he's figured it out but well as he says he can't put his foot on it.

Have you ever been asked to notice something diffrent? Perhaps you've been somewhere and it doesn't quite look the same as you remember. Have you ever seen an old friend who you haven't seen in years? Did they stay the same or did they look or feel like they've changed?  Has someone ever told you this about you? Have they noticed a change in you that no one can figure out until they told you? Perhaps someone asked for your opinion on something. Have you ever had a thought but couldn't fully complete it. Maybe you've had a thought and were trying to tell it to someone but lost your train of thought while speaking.  Did you ever say a line something like Scuttle?

I gotta admit when I hear this line, I laugh every time because it is such a punny funny line. It's one of those lines where you have to do a double take to get the full effect. Scuttle's standing and trying to figure Ariel. Unfortunately for him, or rather fortunately, Sebastian ruins the moment and tells him what's diffrent about her. I've said something like this on more than one occasion. Most recently I've had to say it more and more because some of these quotes really get to me. I know I want to write about them, but I don't always know what to write about. I"m drawn to them for a certain reason. In doing so, it does sometimes put my DisneyQuotes365 project on hold until I get it unlocked as to why I chose it and how it can be relateable. Sometimes I'll start writing about it in one way, but then I'll end up getting stuck and end up stepping away. Then when I reread what I had originally written and chosen, it ends up becoming clear  how I need to write it. Sometimes that means scrapping the whole post, other times it means just tweaking here or there. Once I've got my foothold and take off, there's no stopping.

Day 141: Will you get your head out of the clouds and back in the water where it belongs?-- Sebastian

Will you get your head out of the clouds and back in the water where it belongs?-- Sebastian, The Little Mermaid

This gem comes to us when Sebastian is talking to Ariel about why it's a bad idea that she swims to the surface to see Prince Eric again and why it's a good idea to stay under the sea with her father and sisters.

Have you ever had someone tell you to "get your head out of the clouds"? Have you ever had an idea that seemed so far out there that no one thinks it will work or take off? Perhaps you've had a dream that was so fantastic that you want to happen and have begun taking steps to make it a reality, no matter how far out there some people say it is. Do you still keep working on your dream to make it a reality or do you give up on it because their words got to you?

I've lost track how many times I've been told this over the years. "Get your head out of the clouds and back here on the ground." If it's not that, it's some form of it. It does get me down sometimes but  something sparks inside then back into the clouds my head goes. Some of the more "outrageous" dreams I've got are having my blog and channel be my full-time job, owning a house in the Golden Oak subdivision near Magic Kingdom, travel to see all of the Disney Parks worldwide, being a stay at home mom to more than 4 kids, just to name a few and not all the ones I've suggested to my bosses at work. Most of these are obtainable. Others I know aren't. I just have to keep working at them until they come true and not listen to those who say it can't be done. It may take a while for them to happen but eventually they will.

The hardest part is learning how to keep your head in the clouds while having your feet on the ground. It's something that is doable. I wish I could tell you that there is a simple one solution works for everything kind of answer for this but there's not. Each dream you have requires its own path to get it to reality. Sometimes that path is easy and straight forward, other times it's full of twists, turns, starts and stops. Yet to see the dreams become reality makes everything worth it and gives a sense of fullfillment that wouldn't come if it wasn't realized. All it takes is the first step on the ground to make the dreams that your head in the clouds has a reality.

So until next time, don't be afraid to make your dreams a reality and Keep Cooking with Character!

Day 140: The entire kingdom wants to see you happily settled down with the right girl.-- Grimsby

The entire kingdom wants to see you happily settled down with the right girl.-- Grimsby, The Little Mermaid

This quote comes to us during the conversation the single Prince Eric and major domo Grimsby have after Grimsby gives Eric a rather gaudy birthday gift.

Have you ever been told you need to find someone and settle down? Perhaps they accompanied that request with a line somewhat similar to that quote. Have you ever felt the want and need to get settled down? How do you define "settling down"? Have you ever felt pressured to "settle down"? Have you been told that you're getting up there in years and need t "settle down"?  If you have settled down with someone, did you know it was the "right one" or did you settle down because you felt they were good enough without being "the right one"? If you haven't found "the right one", do you feel like you'll find "the right one" or have you given up hope on ever finding "the right one"?

Finding "the right one" is the first step in settling down. Then actually settling down with someone is a huge step. Whether it's moving in as a boyfriend/girlfriend couple or asking your significant other to marry you, taking a relationship to the next level is a huge step, and sometimes scary too. Sometimes just trying to find "the right one" is a long hard scary process, especially if you're unsure that the person is the right one for you. How do you choose and decide if someone is worthy of being your lifelong partner?

What do you look for in "the right one"? Do you follow what your friends and family think is "the right one" for you or do you follow your heart and what you know you like in a person? Do you write it out and amend the list as you grow older or do you just look without a list in mind and go by a feeling? What may be right for one person may not be right for another. Believe you me I know that all too well. I am under a lot of pressure to "settle down" from myself, others, and society. I had plans to be married with kids by now, but I haven't found the one to be "happily settled down" with. It's one of my dreams to settle down and have kids with my Mr. Right. I know it will happen, but I just don't know when. Some say I'm too picky, I say I'm not willing to settle down with just anyone. I've seen how strong relationships work and last. My parents are my marriage role models. They've gone through everything from health issues and adopting 2 girls (me and my little sister) to being told they weren't allowed to marry and their marriage will only last 6 months after my grandmother finally consented to letting them marry. Their 49th anniversary is this year! I've also seen some that look like they'd last but they didn't. I've also seen relationships start then stop before they've been given a chance to really gain traction. I'm not willing to play with my heart, especially when I have such a great role model for how a marriage should work in my parents's marriage. I'd rather be single than settle down only to find out it doesn't work down the road. Yet I hope I will find "the right one" to settle down with. He's got to be one special gentleman who can deal with me and all my old-fashioned-Disney-life-craziness to make me "happily settle down". I've come close but it just hasn't happened yet (as of this post). Don't let society tell you to settle down before you're ready to. Let it happen naturally, like I am. As they say, if you have to force something it will probably be crap and that also applies to relationships too. No one should be forced to do something they don't want to.

So until next time, Keep Cooking with Character!

Day 139: Someone to watch over her, to keep her out of trouble.-- King Triton

Someone to watch over her, to keep her out of trouble.-- King Triton, The Little Mermaid

This comes to us when King Triton and Sebastian are deep in a conversation about what to do with Ariel. Triton makes this observation about his headstrong daughter's needs.

Have you ever had someone say they're looking out for your best interests? Perhaps they didn't say it directly, but showed it in various ways.  Have you ever  had to keep someone safe?

When I re-read this quote my first thought was that King Triton was looking for a guardian angel for his daughter. Ariel does love to get into mischief but she doesn't go looking for it, unless you count that bum deal she made with Ursula, the sea-witch. That deal was just looking for trouble. Sebastian tries his best, but always seems to come up short.

Have you ever had a "close call" with anything? Have you ever come close to getting injured but weren't? Perhaps you've come close to being in a car crash but managed to somehow miss being hit. Have you ever heard a report of a car crash or something bad happening to someone else in an area that you were just at moments if not an hour before, such as being on your way to work and coming up on a crash that happened moments before you got there? Have you wondered how or what caused you to have those close calls and near-misses? I like to think it's the work of guardian angels keeping everyone safe.

Do you believe in guardian angels? I know I do. I'd be a fool not to believe in them because of all the times I've had close calls over the years. Don't ask me how I've managed to not need stitches or broken a bone or been in a major crash beyond flipping a 4 wheeler and being sideswiped with no damage. I chalk it up to my guardian angels keeping me safe. That's about the only way I can explain it. Guardian angels and sheer dumb luck.

So until next time, do your best to stay out of trouble and as always Keep Cooking with Character.
